Wrestling Blog #11- HEY! One Wrestlemania at a Time!
With Wrestlemania 28 still weeks away, the WWE wasted no time announcing next year’s event. Wrestlemania 29 will take place April 7, 2013 at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey with Axxess (WWE’s fan festival) and the annual Hall of Fame Ceremony to take place in New York.
Two questions came out of this announcement for this fan-
1. New York City gets Wrestlemania two years in a row?
Even though WWE is based out of Connecticut, it has always considered New York its home base. In old wrestler speak, before the WWE became the main promotion anywhere, a wrestler heading to WWE was “going to New York”. The very first Mania took place at Madison Square Garden, as did 10 and 20. It’s just assumed that Wrestlemania 30 would return, and I think it should. Even though WWE loves finding the biggest stadiums for their showcase event, Madison Square Garden is more than just an arena. It wouldn’t be the first time Wrestlemania has been to a place two years in a row. When was the last time? New Jersey… Wrestlemania IV and V took place at Trump Plaza in New Jersey.
2. The Rock at Next Year’s Wrestlemania!?
When the WWE announced the press conference for the event, stars John Cena and Triple H were announced to appear. So was someone else- The Rock. It seemed strange at first. The Rock is set to appear at this year’s Mania in a match with John Cena. Most speculated that after Wrestlemania 28, we would see the last of The Rock actually wrestling. Then, he took to the podium and spoke to the media. And it was there that he said he would be at Wrestlemania 29 in New Jersey. He went to his facebook and twitter and posted “Met Life Stadium… Home Of Wrestlemania 29, 2013. 4/7/13 Met Life Gets ROCKED”
As the internet does, people started to speculate… He is back full time… he is going to be wrestling more and more matches… he will have a match at Summerslam in August… Cena-Rock 2 Next Year…
Here is what we know… The Rock will be all over WWE programming in March of this year and he will appear at Monday Night Raw the night after Wrestlemania 28. He has promotion for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” for May and June of this year… He is filming the film “Snitch” now. He will begin filming “Fast Six” this summer and he has the film “Pain and Gain” in development.
The night after Mania 28 will go a long way of telling us how much Rock we are going to get in the next fourteen months. I would suggest The Rock is back for select Raws and big-time events. This time last week, I would have said The Rock was gone after April 2nd, so I’m taking it!
